Union official: Chicken egg producers cannot raise output

MOSCOW, Dec 1 (PRIME) -- Chicken egg producers hope not to reduce output in the next few years but see no possibility to raise production, Deputy CEO of the Russian Poultry Farmers' Union Yelena Stepanova said at a trade fair on Friday.

"We forecast no decline in production this year, we will reach the last year's level. We hope that there will be the same stable situation in 2024,” Stepanova said.

“Certainly, the elevated demand forces us to raise output, but the situation that was developing over the last few years, unfortunately, gave us no potential that could ensure this growth."

The margins were as low as 5–7%, sometimes 10%, which is not enough for the business to develop, while the quotas for beneficial crediting ended after June. The key rate increased, which put on ice the projects that had started before, she said.

According to the official, a zero import duty on eggs for six months or a prohibition of exports could hurt the industry even more.
